8 Things To Expect After A Successful Hair Transplant

Successful Hair Transplant

After the hair transplant procedure is complete, your new hair follicles can take 2-3 months to grow new natural hair. At first, you might observe rough and uneven hair but soon you will have a head full of youthful hair.

Although it can be exciting to wait for your thick, healthy, soft, sleek, strong and beautiful hair to grow, it can also be frustrating. However, there is no reason to worry because there is nothing unpredictable about the post-treatment period.

If you’re unsure about post-op care or are confused, it’s very important to understand what to expect and the dos and don’ts.

          1Avoid rigorous physical activity

It’s important to keep your blood pressure in check during the first week of the surgery. So, avoid gym training, playing any sport or any physical activity that raises your heartbeats and causes sweating, for at least a week. Such activities can result in bleeding and loss of grafts or intense swelling around the eyes and forehead.

2. Don’t soak in the sun for the first two weeks

Avoid exposing the scalp to direct sun for the first two weeks after your surgery. Generally, during the period of 10 am to 2 pm, there is extreme heat so avoid being in the sun during this time.

3. Elevation will help with the swelling

It’s recommended to sleep while keeping the head elevated for the first week to avoid the risk of swelling. Not everyone experiences swelling after the transplant, so if you don’t feel a slight pressure around your forehead, it’s okay to sleep normally too. Although if you experience swelling, elevating your head at a 45-degrees angle while sleeping will help.

          4. Take the prescribed medications

Take antibiotics as per the prescription to avoid the risks of infections. If you’ve been prescribed to take painkillers, avoid driving and using heavy equipment or machinery. Also, avoid taking medication on an empty stomach as it may cause gastrointestinal issues.

          5.   Use ice for comfort

In case of any swelling injuries during childhood, we treat it with ice, compression and elevation. Use these techniques if you experience swelling after your transplant surgery. Apply ice right above your eyebrows, this will help with swelling as well as any other discomfort you might be experiencing.

          6.
Showering or scrubbing your hair

It is recommended that you don't wash your hair for the first 48 hours after the surgery. On the third day, you can wash your hair gently with shampoo but do not wash them aggressively or do not blast the stream of water directly on your scalp, rather use a cup to rinse your scalp. If your scalp feels itchy, you can use a conditioner.

          7. Protect the scabs

Scabs on your scalp are a perfectly normal side effect of hair transplant surgery. However, until they solidify, do not touch the treatment site. Don’t wear a hat or a cap. Take care of the scalp for at least 72 hours post-treatment.

         8.  Drinking, smoking or eating fast food

During the healing process, you must eat nutritious food and hydrate properly. In the recovery process, nutrition will help to grow healthy and beautiful hair.

Drinking alcohol leads to dehydration and an increase in blood pressure and so it can hamper the growth of new hair. If you’re a smoker, it is recommended to quit a few months before the surgery as it also increases your blood pressure. As it’s important to keep the intake of healthy nutrients and supplements going, eating fast food or unhealthy food is not recommended.
